2008 MX Zx 600RS Race Sled

September 7, 2007 (Lino Lakes, Minn.) – When BRP released the REV? platform-based

Ski-Doo® MX Zx? race sled in 2003, it began a run of snocross domination the sport had

never seen. BRP is looking to repeat that history in all racing disciplines with race sleds

built on the all-new REV-XP platform. The sled sure to get the most attention is the

2008 MX Zx® 600RS snocross/cross-country sled. The new racer is built on the

ultralightweight REV-XP platform with a Racing Special version of the Rotax 600 H.O.

engine to meet new ISR regulations. Hillclimbers are anxious to get their REV-XP Summit®

sleds into competition, and straightliners will have the new hardware in their hands soon.

The REV-XP is a technological tour-de-force. In developing the REV-XP, BRP engineers

redesigned nearly every single part for better performance and lighter weight. The resulting

consumer sleds are the lightest on the market, 81 pounds lighter than comparable

competitive models, on average. The race sled will be right at the ISR-mandated minimum

weight. “I’m sure snowmobilers are as excited to see what the new platform can do in a full

season of competition as BRP is,” said François Tremblay, Ski-Doo Director of Marketing.

“Racing is part of our DNA, and a critical component of our product development –

Ski-Doo racers and race staff have been involved in the REV-XP program from the

beginning. That’s why we’re confident that both our race sleds and consumer sleds will

perform at the highest levels.” A handful of Ski-Doo racers rode REV-XP platform-based

Open Mod sleds for the last few WPSA national snocross races. BRP and its race teams

learned a lot from those outings, enabling BRP to further dial-in the production MX Zx. In

addition, top X-Teamers of all disciplines test rode prototypes throughout the development

cycle. “This Ski-Doo sled, and these Ski-Doo racers, are ready,” said Tremblay.

2008 MX Zx 600RS

The 2008 MX Zx is virtually a consumer MX Z X-package sled. Most differences, such as

additional tunnel brackets, special shocks, and thicker drive axel enable the sled to endure

the beating that only snocross hands out. One change that racing enthusiasts have been

anticipating is the change to 600cc engines in both stock and mod classes. The 2008

MX Zx features a 600RS engine, based on the wellrespected Rotax 600 H.O. It features a

revised cylinder, cylinder head, V-Forcereed valves, MikuniTMX-38 carburetors with

powerjets and new tuned pipe with sensor. Of course, there is no oil injection. An exhaust

gas temperature (EGT) record mode is part of the new sled’s multi-function gauge system.

“More than anyone else, we race what we sell,” said Tremblay. “What consumers see on the

tracks is pretty much what they see in the showrooms and on the trails. That’s very important

to us.”
